The Practicum and its Effects on the Development of Korean Pre-service English Teachers’ Perceptions of Teaching Speaking

There has been a gradual change in Korean English curricula and education systems over recent decades to enhance the ability communicate confidently an increasingly globalized society. The government initiating new policies improve quality of state schools; accordingly, teacher also intensified, with more attention teaching speaking. Therefore, there is need investigate impact preparation on classroom practice through empirical research considering educational contexts. This study explores pre-service teachers’ learning initial area speaking Korea, which seen major policy changes years but had limited investigation. Two perceptions practices are examined, from perspectives influences on, their cognition. Data include observations, semi-structured interviews sequence, documents, qualitative questionnaires. overall findings show practicum cognition development, incongruence between cognitions due gap theory practice. Implications for improvements discussed, as well suggestions further study.
